Dave Beasant
The veteran keeper started his career at Edgware Town 25 years ago and has played for the likes of Wimbledon, Chelsea, Newcastle and Southampton in what has been an illustrious career.
Dave Beasant is best remembered for being the first keeper to save an FA Cup Final penalty when captaining Wimbledon to their 1-0 win against Liverpool in 1988. He spent nine seasons at Wimbledon before joining Chelsea in 1988/89 after a brief spell at Newcastle. He had loan spells at Grimsby and Wolves before leaving Stamford Bridge and heading south to the Dell. Beasant has also enjoyed short-term spells at a host of other clubs including Wigan, Bradford, Portsmouth and Tottenham. He has two full England caps.
The experienced keeper signed for Steve Coppell’s Brighton in January 2003 but was unable to prevent the team from slipping into Division Two. The financial circumstances at the club following relegation prevented Beasant from agreeing new terms with Brighton, leaving him as a free agent. Still feeling that he had something to offer as a player, but keen to step in to a coaching role, Beasant joined Fulham FC at the Club’s pre-season training camp in Austria in the summer of 2003, agreeing terms shortly after returning.
For the last two seasons Beasant has assisted Chris Coleman and Steve Kean in the dugout and works with Antti Niemi and Mark Crossley as Goalkeeper Coach.
