Ian Bell MBE
Ian Bell is a technically correct and gutsy right handed top order batsman, who has established himself as a key member of both the England Test and One Day International sides.
Initially drafted into the England squad as cover for Mark Butcher during the 2001-2002 tour of New Zealand, it was not until several years later that he made his test debut. However, it came as no surprise that when this day came, the former England U-19 captain scored 70 in his only innings against the West Indies at The Oval in the summer of 2004.
Ian was part of the team which helped England regain the Ashes for the first time in 18 years after their thrilling series victory against Australia in the summer of 2005 and took the confidence from this to go on and top the batting averages in England’s subsequent series out in Pakistan.
Ian was Man of the Series in the memorable 4-3 ODI victory over India in the summer of 2007 and was named one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year in April 2008.
